Wow this resonates with me like crazy, I've been to a psych ward a lot when I was younger until I learned how to mask better or not say things that might get me taken to one of those places which is very hard in the moment when someone is antagonizing you. I had a wicked bad childhood because no one knew I was autistic, I was mis-diagnosed young with ADHD, and bi-polar and unfortunately all my autistic quirks were treated like behavior problems that needed correction, sometimes harsh correction by my parents and other authority figures in my life. That was rough, especially when adulthood came and I started to self medicate with drugs and wound up going down that road, after that my autistic quirks were treated like a bi product of addiction and not the reason why I was using drugs in the first place. I found myself in and out of jails, hospitals, detoxes, etc until I eventually got off the drugs around 27ish and dealt with my autism unknowingly again until I was 31 and started to research the topic and go down the self diagnosis rabbit hole but I feel soo much better now that I finally know what's wrong with me and know I'm not alone, thanks to you and the few others like you that decided to put their experiences up to help others. Thanks for what you do!
