I was told NOT to take ibuprofen under any circumstances. But the studies only lasted half a year, so it’s not clear whether the benefits of tonsil surgery last in the long term too. I asked my ENT why adults have so much more trouble and he said it's because the pain comes from the muscle tissue contracting and adults have WAY more muscle tissue, therefore more pain.

A tonsillectomy was once a common procedure to treat infection and inflammation of the tonsils (tonsillitis). After reading how awful the recovery is and not being able to dip for a few days, I stopped altogether and boom, never had a problem except for mild inflammation after that.
