Road rage is the worst. I'm ashamed to admit that I was a terrible road rager for the better part of my early life. One day I ended up getting in this stupid chase with another driver. He had somehow wronged me. Or I had wronged him and he had had the temerity to flip me off for it. Or something. I don't even remember what it was, which shows just how insignificant and stupid it must've been. Anyway, he stopped in front of me and got out of his car, so of course I did the same, and we both started jawing at each other and advancing. The thing was, I was carrying at the time, and I suspect he was as well, as I'm enormous and people typically back down in a hurry when they see me get out of my car. Who knows? Maybe he was just brave - or as blinded by ego as I was. Either way, we got to about six feet from each other, engaging in ridiculous male display behavior that could've come right out of an Attenborough series, while exchanging insults throughout, until the honking of the cars we were thoughtlessly and selfishly blocking with our stupid show of plumage got to him and he turned on his heel and stalked back to his car. The encounter ended with a final exchange of obscenities and whatnot, but I drove away from that with a lot on my mind, not the least of which is that one or the other of us, and maybe both, could easily have ended up dead over something so insignificant that I can't even remember it now. That got me thinking even more, and I replayed as many road rage incidents as I could recall in my mind, trying to think of any in which I achieved some kind of victory, and I couldn't think of a single one. Anyway, to make a long story even longer, my road rage literally vanished overnight. The realization that I was playing a very dangerous game that didn't even have the possibility of my winning a prize, put everything in perspective. I'm downright docile on the road these days, letting people in left and right, no tailgating, no brake checks, ignoring being cut off accidentally, all that stuff. I can tell you that it makes driving a whole lot less stressful. Fin.
