Happiness springing from earthly joys is as changeable as the circumstances that give rise to it; but the peace of Jesus is a continual and lasting peace. Christ is the fountain of living water, and the happiness received from Him will never perish. The gentleness of Christ manifested in the home will make those who live in it happy; she provokes no quarrel, gives no harsh answer, but soothes the fiery temper, spreading a kindness which will be felt by all who find themselves within his delightful circle. If nurtured in the heart, it makes families on earth a part of the great family above. It is much better for us to suffer under a false accusation, than to burden ourselves with the torment of vengeance against our enemies. The spirit of hatred and revenge was born in Satan and can only bring harm to the one who feeds it. Humility of heart, that meekness, which is the fruit of abiding in Christ, is the true secret of blessing. He glorifies the meek, saving them. Psalms 149, 4. The meek will inherit the earth. Through the desire for self-exaltation, sin entered the world and our first parents lost control over this beautiful earth, their kingdom. Only through self-denial does Christ redeem what is lost. He says we must overcome as He overcame. Revelation 3, 12. Through humility and self-surrender, we can become heirs with Him when the meek shall inherit the earth. Psalms 37, 11. The land promised to the meek will not be like this, darkened by the shadow of death and curse. But we, according to His promise, are waiting for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness will dwell. There will be nothing worthy of a curse there. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it. His servants will serve him. 2 Peter 3, 13; Revelation 22, 3. There is no more disappointment, no sorrow, no sin, no one to say: I am sick; there are no more funeral processions, no weeping, no death, no partings, no broken hearts; but Jesus will be there, peace will be there. There they will not hunger, nor will they thirst; the heat will not beat him, nor the sun; for He who has mercy on them will guide them and lead them to springs of water.” Isaiah 49, 10.
